At various times, his actions have been likened to a ruse on par with any James Bond villain: should anything happen to Julian Assange or his controversial WikiLeaks operation, another round of clandestine government cables would be released; a proverbial opening of Pandora’s Box unleashed for world leaders and, namely, U.S. officials to have to deal with. Among the contents of the secret cables the organization has been releasing, however, were at least a few surprises, according to Assange. Namely, there were said to be references to UFOs held within.
Though perhaps this remains to be seen, earlier this month in an ongoing process referred to as “You ask, we search,” the British Guardian news source had undertaken extensive searches for key words and subjects ranging from information about 9-11 to aliens and “non-terrestrial officers.” However, according to a post at the site’s blog, no such information, even in passing, has been found.

Over at the website for my show, The Micah Hanks Radio Program, I’ve posted a very special holiday message I’d like to share with you, the readers of this blog and, of course, listeners of my weekly show. To have a look at what I find to be some of the most important aspects the holidays have to offer, all you have to do is follow the link below:
A Very Special Holiday Message from Micah Hanks
This is indeed a very special time of the year, and I thank all of you out there who have helped to make 2010 special here at The Gralien Report in general. That said, I’m very much looking forward to what incredible adventures lay waiting around the corner in 2011!
The holidays are a magical time of year. For me, this typically means I’ll find myself terribly busy, yet all the while blessed with a surprising amount of sporadic downtime. The latter of these circumstances has allowed for a number of things that are typically as remote to my daily schedule as the appearance of a tall, hair-covered giant emerging from the mists of a secluded pinnacle before an unsuspecting traveler today. For instance, I’ve had time for a bit of much-needed introspection, while ruminating over strong coffee and a delicious Dunhill tobacco clone, smoke billowing softly from the mouth of my curved stem pipe as it droops lazily off the corner of my lip. An evening that should have amounted to a glass of bourbon and a chat with an old flame (and yes, she’s very beautiful) turning into seven hours of empathic exchange that would redefine, for most, the nature of “knowing” someone. And courtesy of my dear fellow Patrick Huyghe at Anomalist Books, who graciously (and frequently) sends me review copies of his newest features, I’ve also had time to digest one of the most unique books on Cryptozoology I’ve read since Sanderson’s Abominable Snowmen: Legend Come to Life.
Simply put, True Giants: Is Gigantopithecus Still Alive? is a fascinating read. However, as the name implies, the intention here is to be clear and honest in our categorization of the facts and interpretation. Therefore, perhaps it is necessary for me to lay a few of my own inherent observations and biases on the table before delving into the world of gigantic people that are even larger than what we know as “Bigfoot” in the modern annals of folklore and, according to an ever-growing body of researchers, the study of as-yet unknown animals that do actually exist.

Last night, I was fortunate enough to be able to participate in a year-end review podcast with my friends Ben and Aaron of the Mysterious Universe website, a site for which I also frequently blog. During the conversation, we each were sharing our own unique “top ten” favorite stories of the year, pertaining to strange and unusual happenings from around the world (since Ben and Aaron live in Australia, this certainly turned out to be a pleasantly global endeavor). Right off the bat, one of the benefits of having friends with mutual interests on the other side of the globe (and blogging for their site, to boot) is that you sometimes hear news from other locales sooner than mainstream news sources here in the U.S. can catch hold of it. Although nothing we discussed last night was “breaking news” (since we were merely recounting some of our favorites stories of the last year), I still managed to hear some wild tales which, prior to our conversation, I had been unaware of.
One story in particular, that of a man who called in to an Australian talk radio program with an unusual story, was particularly unnerving. As the caller’s tale goes, the fellow, identifying himself only as “Bongo,” had dialed the popular Australian radio program Overnights, which was featuring a number of strange legends and stories from a dense wooded area known as the Pilliga Scrub. While recounting his apparent encounter with a “Yowie” there in 1978, the man begins to get rather frantic upon being asked to describe a creature he could only refer to (after much stuttering and loss of composure) as “horrible.” Below is a link to audio from the original call in:
“Bongo and the Beast”
