Our encounter involved all family members (those still residing in the home) having interactions with these other dimensional entities in common experiences with one another.

They are demonic. They exude a palpable sense of malfeasance that abruptly ceases when they are no longer present.

They don't always paralyze one's body. I had one encounter when sitting on a couch where one of these beings materialized (exemplified by an audible popping noise) in an adjacent room and then it walked into the room I was in, circling over to come right up in front of me. We then had a spiritual duel that lasted half an hour before it finally was no longer present.

In our case, as Christians, we needed to rededicate ourselves to our faith and dispense with things in our lives that were taking us off track. When we did that, we were then able to repel these entities by calling the authority of Jesus Christ and rebuking them. They then began to cease to come into our home.

I firmly am a creature of science. I simply see that full reality consist of much more than the material universe that our senses enable us to normally access. These being exist in other dimensionality. Our forefathers referred to it as a spiritual realm - spiritual being a broad term referring to a greater reality than just our material experience.

This seems quite interesting. I'm aware of the mentioned reductionist explanation, which of course may not be entirely at odds with the explanations offered. Though I have not encountered sleep paralysis itself, I am no stranger to hypnagogia.

Even in the typical explanation (hypnagogia combined with body paralysis and a bit of an adrenaline rush) assumes that arbitrary external stimulus and primed responses are responsible for the hallucinations encountered in this state. I am aware of hypnagogia as a substitute for other altered states used in various rituals and workings, but this is the first time I have heard of an association with poltergeist activity and such. I will look into this.
