Earlier today, news broke about the death of Farrah Fawcett, a highly anticipated event as media coverage had continued to reveal to the public over the last several months that her health had been deteriorating at an alarming rate. Then, shortly after 3:15 PM today, most major media sources had begun shifting their attention to what has perhaps become the biggest celebrity-death shocker this year; the passing of pop singer and cultural icon Michael Jackson. Jackson was 50 years old.

As I read the news on my Blackberry forty five minutes later, I grimly thought to myself of the old adage, “things happen in threes”. Could this end up being the case today? Now, our worst fears may be confirmed as synchronicity threatens to strike yet again… indeed, details are slowly emerging regarding what may be the death of a third celebrity; a shocking conclusion to today’s unsettling round-up.

Indeed, rumors are emerging that suggest that an on-set accident may have claimed the life of actor Jeff Goldblum earlier today, the third celebrity to pass away within the last twelve hours. Below are two links that are presently carrying the story:

According to reports from a New Zealand newspaper – and lots of action on Twitter – actor Jeff Goldblum died early this morning after a fatal fall. The alleged death occurred while on set in New Zealand when Goldblum fell over sixty feet off a nearby cliff. As of yet no other news source has picked up the story, so it’s probably false. That said, he is currently filming a movie titled, “Morning Glory“, but no word on where it’s filming.

Again, these reports speculating on the death of actor Jeff Goldblum are as-of-yet unconfirmed. Meanwhile, as a variety of other websites across the internet continue speculation, several others are decrying the rumors as a hoax. More on this startling turn of events as it develops…

In the meantime, Uri Geller is joining Shepard Smith on FOX NEWS live as I type this (8:18 PM EDST) discussing the death of Jackson, who he called a close friend, describing “times where he had had ‘rows’ with him, alluding to “things that shouldn’t have been given to him”. Geller claims, while administering a hypnotic state to Jackson, that he asked the singer about allegations that he had molested children, to which Jackson replied “absolutely not”.

Celebrity news sources and media networks are focused solely on the information regarding the passing of the self proclaimed “King of Pop”, and news commentator Larry King commented only minutes ago via his Twitter account that “I interviewed Michael Jackson when he 12 and with the Jackson 5.” No doubt, many others in the media and entertainment industry will be mourning the loss of this icon, in addition to the passing of Farrah Fawcett a mere five hours earlier, within miles of the UCLA Medical Center where Jackson was confirmed dead. UPDATE: I’ve been away from internet connections for a few hours (as of 11:52 PM EDST). However, by now the Jeff Goldblum “death hoax” is coming to a close, as corrected information about the origins of this internet rumor are now coming to light:

FakeAWish.com allows users to type in a celebrity name – such as Jeff Goldblum – and spits out a fake news story saying he has “died while filming a movie in New Zealand early this morning” after falling off a cliff.

Yet synchronicity seems to prevail… how strange that a story like this would get circulated on a day that happened to coincide with the deaths of two other celebrities? (To be honest, this may not be so much true synchronicity as it is merely an odd coincidence, but the more mystic-minded among us would perhaps remind us that “there are no coincidences”). Who knows… although I must mention that my friend Eileen of The Paranormal Casebook and many others are pointing out the death of Ed McMahon earlier this week. Though it wasn’t a third death to occur today, I guess we have to give kudos to synchronicity for not letting us down on our “rule of threes”, at very least.
