Mexican Mylar Update: The Force is With You!
THE EMPIRE SKY SQUID STRIKES BACK!
WWLSD? (That is, what would Luke Skywalker do?)
Here’s an idea: he would use the force to find out who the individuals involved were, and then ”trust his feelings” like Yoda famously said in order to rule out foul play based on their merit as individuals.
Since my skills with the force aren’t as developed as those of Luke (I guess I’m still a padwan), I have to resort to journalistic means of trying to make sense of who was involved in the most recent offering from South of the border; that is, the now infamous “Sky Squid” video from earlier this week.
I have already recieved a few suggestions as to who the individual filming the video may have been, as well as the identity of “Jamie”, to whom the speaker refers to directly in a phone discussion taking place as the video was being made. My good friend Javier Ortega from over at the Ghost Theory blog now provides the most up-to-date idea as to who the individuals referenced in the video are, In this latest new evidence regarding the video:
I was watching the video of the “sky squid” a bit closer and have some info on the guy who filmed it. His name is Arturo Robles Gil. He’s a known Mexican UFO investigator. Here’s his Youtube channel:

I remember seeing him in the news when I was a kid, promoting sketchy videos as proof. This video though, seems interesting.
He and Jaime Maussan (which he makes reference to in the video) have a long history in the Mexican media. A word of advice… Maussan is the Mexican Biscardi of ufology.
I wonder if the Discovery channel’s camera has a better resolution to this. Why have they not released any info ???
Since he sent this email to me earlier, Javier and I discussed some of the stranger elements of the video (the strangest to me being the fact that so much hype has built around it since it appeared on the web). Many have said that, although the object looks just like a cluster of reflective balloons, it is nonetheless strange how they appear to bob around inconsistently at times. I suggested that it could be that some of the balloons were merely under-inflated, causing the minor variety in rate of ascension, etc, which Javier agrees could be likely.
Most interesting of all the things Javier points out is Jamie Maussan’s reputation as “The Mexican Biscardi of Ufology,” which would compare him to Tom Biscardi, most famous for his recent association with the Bigfoot body released by two men from Georgia, which was subsequently found to be a hoax. Along these lines, as well as based on what I’ve learned in recent weeks, if someone is known for hoaxes and has a past of being associated with them, then ruling out their “findings” immediately spares us all the trouble of wasting time later on what could be (and likely is) a hoax. For some, this may sound like a bad thing… almost as nasty as using that “belief” word. But frankly, if we want to consider Occam’s Razor for a moment, the simplest explanation is most often the explantion. Therefore, if it looks, smells, and acts like a rat (or a hoax, for that matter), it probably is.
“Trust your feelings, padwan.” Okay then… I think our Sky Squid is a big buncha balloons. That’s my expert opinion, no use of “the force” necessary. I think Yoda would be proud nonetheless.
Special thanks to the formidable Javier Ortega for his insights. I highly recommend taking a look at his blog, Ghost Theory, which you can reach via the link below:
